Keptex

Plain terms for a plain deal.

By using Keptex, the website, the extension, or the apps, you agree to these terms. They are short because the deal is simple: the software derives your credentials on your device, stores nothing on our side, and is provided as-is.

Acceptance of terms.

These terms apply to your use of the Keptex website and software (the browser extension, mobile and desktop apps, and supporting libraries). If you do not agree with them, do not use Keptex. Continued use after a change to these terms counts as acceptance of the updated version.

The service.

Keptex is a deterministic, non-custodial credential manager. Every password and passkey is derived on demand, on your device, from a signature produced by your cryptographic wallet. Nothing is stored or processed server-side: there are no accounts, no sync servers, and no copy of your credentials anywhere but in the mathematics. The software is provided as-is; it is a tool you run, not a service we operate on your behalf.

Your responsibilities.

  • Safeguard your wallet and its recovery phrase. The wallet is your identity; whoever controls it can derive your credentials.
  • Safeguard your recovery code or master password if your vault uses a second factor. They are never transmitted or stored by Keptex.
  • Understand that, by design, Keptex cannot recover lost credentials. There is no reset flow, no support backdoor, and no stored copy to restore from. If the inputs are lost, the credentials are lost.
  • Use the software lawfully and only on accounts and systems you are authorised to access.

Licence.

Keptex is source-available under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. You may read, audit, experiment with, and use the code for noncommercial purposes. Embedding Keptex in a commercial product, shipping it inside a wallet or platform offered to end users, or using it in production for a company requires a separate commercial agreement, see INTEGRATION.md in the repository, or write to contact@keptex.com.

No warranty, limitation of liability.

The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Keptex and its contributors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the software, including loss of credentials, loss of access to accounts, or loss of funds. You use a deterministic, non-custodial tool at your own risk and under your own key management.

Changes to these terms.

We may update these terms as the product evolves. When we do, this page changes first and the change lands in the public commit history, the same no-silent-change rule as the privacy policy. Material changes will be flagged on this page.
